Catch the Moment #7 :: Project 365

I ended up with ALL cell phone pictures this week, but I remembered to take a picture every day, before bedtime even, so I guess that counts for something, right?

Thursday, February 13th
SuperDad spent all day shoveling snow off the roof. This resulted in huge piles of snow in front of all of our doors. Charly now has his very own “tunnel” to the backyard.

Friday, February 14th
We aren’t really big on things like anniversaries and Valentine’s Day around here, but I sure appreciate the flowers my hubby picked up at the grocery store for me!

Saturday, February 15th
One of my friends is having a baby in March and her shower was today. As usual, I managed to take no pictures of actual people.

Sunday, February 16th
Mason was super thrilled to go out and play in the snow.

Monday, February 17th
My Equinox is in the shop and they sent us home with a RIDICULOUSLY large truck to drive in the mean time.

Catch the Moment #6 :: Project 365

Thursday, February 6
When it was time for bed, Mason decided to pretend to already be sleeping. I didn’t quite believe him.

Friday, February 7
I met a friend at a huge fundraiser for a shelter near her place. Charly wasn’t thrilled to be there and spent the entire night hellbent on pulling me out the door, so I ended up taking five pictures the whole night and all of them were awful. This is Brandy and Lenny.

Saturday, February 8
We took Mason bowling for the first time. Expect a photo post next week!

Sunday, February 9
In December, we went to see Monster Jam. It was there I learned that there is actually a dog themed monster truck. I was way too excited to find (and buy) it at Wal-Mart on Sunday.

Monday, February 10

I worked at the clinic all day on Monday and then worked at the bookstore in the evening so I almost missed taking a picture today.

Tuesday, February 11
Poor Charly was a mess on Tuesday. Yogurt on his forehead, dead Asian beetle on his nose….

I also must note that I’M SO SICK OF THE COLD WEATHER!

Wednesday, February 12
Took the old man kitty to the vet for his bi-monthly workup.

Linking up again this week….

Train Show 2014

Every year, the model train show comes to our local mall. I’ve been going since I was a little kid and I was thrilled when Mason showed interest in trains, if only because I wanted to pass on my childhood tradition. This is the third year we’ve went together and I was really sad when he was less than enthused about going this year. Then I got to thinking and he seems to be… over trains. He very rarely plays with his toy trains (Thomas and Friends just went to the basement), he never watches train shows any more, and he isn’t even impressed to hear the train whistle blow at night anymore. Not wanting to see the model trains seemed to be the final blow and this this momma was a little bummed.

We decided to go anyway since there isn’t much else to do when it’s -20ΒΊ out and when we got to the train show and he LIT UP. He was absolutely thrilled and had a wonderful time. It was so much fun. Whew.

For the first 1/2 a lap, he rode on Daddy’s shoulders, “oohing” and “ahhing” and telling us where to go and what to stop and look at. trainshow1

His favorite displays were of course, all construction/logging related.

trainshow13 trainshow5

This has been my favorite display since I was a litle girl. I remember I use to be just MESMERIZED by the tiny intricate rides as a kid.

After a while, we got to the shorter displays and he was able to get down off SuperDad’s shoulders and still be able to see the trains.
trainshow6 trainshow8 trainshow9

His absolute FAVORITE part of the train show…

Do you see what it is? A John Deere train hauling John Deere tractors and implements. Mason’s favorite train? Go figure!

The squealing and cries of “AWESOME!” seemed to be well appreciated by the display operators and other train enthusiasts. So cute LOL

Desite his dragging his heels about now wanting to go, I’m SO glad we did.

Catch the Moment #5 :: Project 365

Another week has come and gone. I had a horrible time finding inspiration and motivation to take pictures this week, I’m thinking the zillion days of below zero temps is really starting to wear on me.

Thursday, January 30
It snowed pretty heavily once again Thursday morning, so SuperDad had more plowing to do. Several inches before 11 am and a “work is slow” snow day for me!

Friday, January 31
I picked Mason up some Yo Gabba Gabba Superhero pajamas a week ago and I just can’t get over how cute they are. All pajamas need footies and a cape, don’t you think?

Saturday, February 1st
Mason has found a new passion in life – playing Wii golf. Despite his baseball-style swing, he’s getting pretty good!

Sunday, February 2nd
Joe got a new bed and seems to like it. He looks sad here because he obviously has no toys.

Monday, February 3rd
Today was SuperDad’s birthday. We roadtripped to Minnesota which meant we passed my favorite water tower.

Birthday pie!

Tuesday, February 4th
I spent Tuesday home sick in bed. It was… not fun.
Sick Day

Wednesday, February 5th
Our night time play consisted of me being a friendly snowman (aka dog toy) that needed a ride on the big truck to go buy some cookies. Mason found this ridiculously amusing and would have played it all night had I let him.

Did you catch any special moments on “film” this week?

Mason Meets Llama Llama

For over a year, we read Llama Llama Nighty Night before Mason went to bed. Every single night. Mason enjoys other Llama Llama books as well (his favorite probably being “Llama Llama Time to Share”) and I’m a fan of the big camelid myself. So when I saw that Llama Llama was coming to our local (bigger) library for the 10000 Books Before Kindergarten kick-off, I knew we had to be there!

The library was set up with several activity stations to pass the twenty minutes or so before the guest of honor arrived.

Mason worked on a puzzle

And worked at the stamping station

He also checked out the gerbils, which were SUPER exciting this day because they were both awake and out “exercising” (aka running on their wheel)

Then along came Llama Llama. Mason wasn’t as excited as I expected (and even twenty minutes into the visit asked “When do I get my surprise!?” #fail) but it was still fun.

They played with Playdough

Llama Llama attempted story time but no one came. LOL

We had to bribe him into giving Llama Llama the world’s fastest hug. This wasn’t the photo I had envisioned but that’s preschoolers for you I guess.

And then Llama Llama and Mason did a puzzle together.

Llama Llama had such personality and she made SuperDad and I laugh way harder than she probably should have

All three puzzles they completed warranted a celebration

We had a great time meeting Llama Llama and are so happy our library offers such fun programs. Have your kids ever met any literary characters?

Catch the Moment #4 :: Project 365

Thursday, January 23
We went out to eat at the local pizza and sub shop. Mason hit a new milestone by bringing money to the counter to buy something (milk) and pay for it all by himself.

Friday, January 24
Date night at Red Robin

Saturday, January 25
Mason and Llama Llama did puzzles together at the library. A separate post about this coming soon!

Sunday, January 26
Beautiful Gretta (One of my MIL’s cats)

Monday, January 27
We spent a good half an hour working together as a family to put together a giant tractor floor puzzle. It made Mason’s “favorite things” list that day.

Tuesday, January 28
As a Boogie Wipes Ambassador, I’m constantly bringing Boogie Wipes samples into Mason’s daycare. They requested more for the one year old room and I was surprised to get this nice thank later that day. πŸ™‚

Wednesday, January 29
I spent the entire evening working on our insurance appeal and Mason immersed himself in his new library books and watched (half of) Planes for the 1st time.

Catch the Moment 365 #3

Thursday – Mason had a super fun time playing his favorite game “Good Pirate Vs. The Naughty Cat” (aka Daddy)

Friday – The never ending negotiating at supper time. As you can see here, we settled on eating three more green beans

Saturday – with temps in the high teens instead of negatives, Joe and I enjoyed a quick walk

Sunday – I took Mason roller skating for the first time. Super disappointed that I didn’t bring a real camera and someone to take pictures. See all the pictures here.

Monday – We tried to enforce a “three animals in bed” rule. We lost. Mason was happy.

Tuesday – A tractor line up and a happy boy

Wednesday – Temps back in the negative 20s again. Even this snowman was cold.

Despite the cold weather, we had a fun week. Hope everyone else did too!

First Time Rollerskating

I grew up rollerskating. We actually had a rollerskating unit in gym class when I was in elementary school! In second grade, I strapped some rollerblades on in my friend’s basement and next thing you knew, we were hitting the roller rink every weekend. While my groups of friends changed throughout the years, the weekly trips to the roller rink lasted basically up until high school.

Today, I took Mason to that very same roller rink for his first time skating. He was beside himself with excitement all morning and by the time we had got there, I had convinced him to try “big kid skates” (aka regular rental skates) as opposed to the plastic Fisher Price skates I had brought with us.

I unfortunately brought my camera but NOT it’s memory card but I’m not sure that would have mattered as I could never get far enough away from Mason to take a decent picture of him anyway LOL

Oh well, mediocre pictures of milestones are better than no pictures at all, right?!

So excited to get started

Hanging on for dear life

In between laps around the rink, he tried hard to convince me to dig up change to play alllll the games.

He conned me into paying $2 more dollars so he could play in the play land. He ran himself ragged and I now wish we could come here just for the playland.

He then set a world record for hot dog eating in the 3 year old division

“The shiny floor was a lot more slippery, Mommy!”

Unlike Cole and his athletic prowess, I don’t see a future in Olympic Rollerskating for Mason. In fact, it’s possible he could try out for a part in Broadway’s production of “Bambi on Ice.” But I’m so proud of him for trying as long as he did and having a good attitude about the number of times he fell down. (And yeah, I ended up totally regretting talking him into NOT using his little kid skates LOL)

The next time we go, I’m going to be prepared to be nickeled and dimed (the frame he’s holding on to was equivalent to the price of admission!) and I’m going to make sure that I have a real camera and a third person to either walk with him or take pictures.

As for Mason? He is already asking if we can go back tomorrow.

Did you grow up rollerskating? Have you taken your kids?

Catch the Moment #2

I really loved looking at everyone’s pictures last week and can’t wait to peek into everyone’s lives again this week.

Here is a little bit of what our week looked like – and since 90% of these were taken in my kitchen or living room, can I just say I’m SO ready for spring to be here?!

SuperDad and I had a date night, which included going to a delicous pizza place that had some neat wintery decorations up.

We celebrated Christmas with my brother’s family finally. This was the best picture I managed to get of Mason and his cousins – they were allll waaaay too wiggly (Chloe is about 4 1/2 and my nephew is 16 months)

Mason was so excited about his Ninja Turtles track suit that he got at Cousins Christmas that he demanded to wear it right away on Sunday.

Mason received a super fun Christmas present from his friend Emma.

Mason was super excited to be able to plow snow with his daddy (not so excited about posing for this picture)

Then he came in so wet and tired and that had to take his shirt off to eat supper. And didn’t notice that Joe was sneaking his chicken nuggets.

When I picked Mason up from school, he was having so much fun with this Cars computer he asked to stay there all night. LOL

I also learned that a picture I took of Charly earlier in the week had been featured in a popular Buzzfeed article (along with a slam against our stereo *rolls eyes*)

So there you have it – our week in a handful of pictures. Unlike the first week, I took several pictures almost every day this week and had a hard time choosing between them. I’m trying to slow down and pay more attention to things like “Hmmm, maybe I shouldn’t have the pile of mail and random junk in the very obvious background” and begging Mason to stop wiggling for just two seconds! Both are works in progress!

What was the favorite moment of your week?

Christmas 2013

At first, I felt like it was “too late” to post Christmas pictures seeing as we are now half way through January, but then I realized that I’M the one who uses this blog to look back at our memories and it’s NEVER too late to add something worth remembering to it, right?

Christmas 2013 was awesome. Santa was very very very (a bit too much) good to Mason and so were the Kohl’s $10 off a $10 purchase coupons LOL Christmas Eve he was convinced he was going to stay up all night and catch Santa (but fell asleep quickly) and it was nerve racking getting everything ready because I was scared to death he was going to wake up and catch us!!

We had him pose for a few pictures Christmas Eve

He agreed to take more pictures if he was allowed to make silly faces

Christmas morning – we’ve done this “Mommy and Mason coming down the hall” pose every Christmas so far and I hope we continue it until he’s, I dunno, 20 LOL

Charly was the official videographer of Christmas 2013

He was more than thrilled with his presents and very good about posing with them. Each present was more exciting than the last.

About half way through opening, he had a little melt down because he didn’t want to pick up the wrapping paper himself and he was mad that I wouldn’t let him do 100% of the opening of MY presents as well as his own. After a brief break for a Christmas cookie, he was back to having fun.

So much excitement and wonder. What an awesome Christmas!
